J/24 Class association x CICSA

CICSA has recently been presented with the opportunity to help organize teams of collegiate sailors to compete in multiple J/24 events, leading up to the 2027 J/24 World Championships in Rochester, New York. Teams who attend the events will be eligible to compete against each other for the Canadian Youth Team berth at the 2027 J/24 Worlds. The representative youth team would have their entry fee to the J/24 Worlds paid for by the J/24 Class Association of Canada.

General Information

How many teams?

We are open to accommodating multiple collegiate teams in the qualification process. The exact number will depend on boat availability and logistics.

Qualification Format

We are planning to use a high-point scoring system for qualification. In simple terms, teams earn points based on the number of boats they finish ahead of in each race. This rewards strong performances in larger fleets and encourages participation across major events. PLEASE NOTE that this means teams should try their best to attend as many events as possible, or possibly the event(s) with the largest fleet, i.e. the event(s) with the largest amount of points up for grabs.

Who is eligible?

  • Competitors must be under 25 years old on the first day of championship racing at the Worlds
  • The skipper must be a Canadian citizen or resident
  • The skipper and owner must be members of the Canadian J/24 Class Association
  • The team must be officially nominated by the Canadian J/24 Class Association
